No Ordinary Love (the beggining of my novel)

Sky looked down at her well-manicured nails and then abruptly shoved them in her jacket. As a slight wind caressed her dark brown hair, she cinched the belt of her jacket and ran her fingers through her hair, looking slightly annoyed at the distraction from her thoughts. She could see the rain falling gently from under the restaurant’s awning and was kicking herself for leaving her umbrella at the house. The weatherman said that there was a chance of early morning showers, but he did not say they would be returning later in the evening. At least she had parked in the parking garage; it was just getting from the restaurant’s entrance to the car that was worrying her. Carefully she made her way to the parking garage using her jacket as a shield and looked around for where she parked her BMW. After searching what seemed like forever to her she found her car and made her way inside. As she settled into her leather seats and pressed her seat warmers, she wondered why she had waited for an hour only to be stood up by her blind date.

This time not caring about trying to shield herself from the rain, she arrived at her townhouse. Before she had gotten on the Beltway it had started to rain heavier and steadily and her hair was as frazzled as she was. Picking up the phone to dial her friend Monica’s number she kicked off her heels and struggled to remove her damp clothes. “Monica, how could you hook me up with someone that wasn’t even going to show up or at least call me on my cell, to say he couldn’t make it,” Skye yelled into the phone.

“Are you sure he didn’t try to call you on your cell, I know how you like to forget to turn the ringer on,” Monica questioned on the other end of the phone.

“Yes, I’m sure! I had my cell phone on in the restaurant and when I was in the car. Just do me a favor and don’t try and hook me up anymore. I would’ve had better luck if I had placed an ad in the City Paper!” Skye had stripped down to her underwear and was looking around her bedroom for her robe as her dog, Mariposa, watched the whole scene with mild amusement from atop her bed.
